Dice Rolling Game

This blog is about the dice rolling game that we did on the first day of class.

1. What did we do?
For the first day class, we were given a die, a blank sheet of paper and a worksheet that included various marks in boxes that were labeled 1 through 18. The instructions were provided at the top of the sheet and we were told to figure out what it meant and complete the worksheet without verbal instruction.
The way that I interpreted this assignment was that I would roll the die as many times as the number in the box, and from there I added up the total and drew that number of symbols on my blank sheet of paper.
2. What did you learn?
From this activity, I learned that there can be many ways that a student can perceive and complete a task. While one student understands directions in a certain way, another may understand it differently. Everyone has their own unique way of processing information, and because of this, we all have a different outcome of the same assignment.
3. What do you want to know now?
I think that it would be interesting to find out how many different ways that people follow the instructions. It was neat to see everyones different interpretations.
4.How might we work with these tools in classrooms?
In the classroom, I believe that uniqueness is something that should be glorified. If we were all to do the same exact thing, it could end up to be boring. It is important to use our own minds when creating. If all the students in the art classroom copied everyone else, there wouldn’t be any growth and development artistically.
