1. What did we do?

First we went to tracs and looked under resources and downloaded the 0-html-basic folder to the desktop. When the file is opened that is titled “index.html”, the internet opens up a web page that has the justice-waterHack.jpg image with a grey background and text that says “put some text”. Then we went to the top of the screen where it says tools, dropped down the bar to “Web Developer” and then down to “Page Source”. From there, text will show up with the code of the page in a new tab. We copied the text and pasted it into the text wrangler application. When it is in text wrangler, you are able to edit the text and change the picture. I chose to use a digital painting that I made recently as my picture. I also changed the text to “Colorful sunset on the lake”. When you make a change and would like to view it, all you do is save it and press command and tab button on the keyboard until the Firefox icon is selected. Then when Firefox is opened, press command and then the r button to reload the page.. the changes that you made should show up on the browser. To make more changes, we opened the other file in our folder that is titled “style.css”. This document is already in text wrangler, so it is already editable. In this file you can change the color of the background as well as the color of the text, I changed my background to teal and my text to yellow. We then saved our 0-html-basic folder to our flash drives so that our own creations could be kept.

2. What did you learn?

I learned how to change the appearance of the index.html web page by finding the websites code and editing it through text wrangler. I also learned to become more familiar with doing this, so that when I become an art teacher and I have students who would like to make creations like this, I will have what I learned in my “toolbox”.

3. What do you want to know now?

I would like to learn how to make a design that leads to a game and multiple pages that you could click on and it would be a link to something else.

4. How might we work with these tools in classrooms?

This assignment would be great for students who enjoy working with computers and designing web pages. Students could also create a “digital portfolio” with pictures of their artwork and projects that they make in class. Then, at the end of the year, everyone can explore their web pages and look at everything that they made. I think that parents and family members would enjoy seeing their kids’ work all together in a digital format.
